Padma Shri Awardee

Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor, an Indian social worker with a physical disability, hails from Gujarat and is the founder of the non-governmental organization Disable Welfare Trust of India. He is also a member of the board for founders at Rishihood University. This organization is dedicated to uplifting physically disabled individuals. In recognition of his commendable efforts, the Government of India honored Tailor in 2011 with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award.

During his early schooling, Kanubhai contracted Poliomyelitis, resulting in a permanent disability in both legs. Motivated by his personal experience, he established the Disable Welfare Trust of India to focus on the welfare of disabled individuals, particularly in the areas of education, vocational training, and rehabilitation. The Trust has expanded over the years, encompassing a school, physiotherapy center, vocational training center, boys and girls hostels, and a rehabilitation center, collectively serving 400 children.
